Results from The Big Comp ’19
The Big Comp took place on Saturday 21st September here at HarroWall! Complete with Junior Finals, Senior Finals, Cash Prizes, Padstacking + More!
The team was determined to make The Big Comp an event that would be enjoyed by everyone – no matter how hard they climb. We are ecstatic with the feedback and smiles we saw throughout the day, all helping to make it a massive success for both the staff and all the competitors who travelled to be a part of it. Above all, a key element of The Big Comp is the Junior Finals event . With a hefty spectator turn-out, the Junior Male & Female climbers put on a spectacular show. As always, it was fantastic to see the Juniors giving it their all on their very own specially set Finals.
We cram a LOT into The Big Comp day, so just as Junior Finals kicked off on our massive competition wall, the Seniors started their qualification circuit. Juniors and Seniors (Male & Female) both had a 25 climb circuit specially set to test themselves on which included a couple of unique, one day only, problems that were a bit different from the norm. These climbs included hanging blocs, swinging finishes & moving holds!
The top 6 scores from the Male & Female qualifiers went through to the Showcase Finals. For the Senior Finals we turned on the spotlights, cranked up the DJ, and got ready for a great display of climbing from the Finalists. We saw some big move problems alongside some serious slab technique for both Male & Females. The finalists put on a great show for cash prizes and glory!
Senior + Masters Scores
Masters Category saw some strong competitors on the mats – with the dedicated Catalyst Masters competition team turning up and cleaning up! Taking both the top spots in the Male & Female categories of the Masters podium.
The Senior Category had a solid turn out with the Finalists including current British Champion, Nathan Phillips. Coming a close second was our very own staff member, Nathan Whaley. The Female category was dominated by British Team Member, Tara Hayes. Followed by Miriam Frauenlob – new on the London scene fresh from the Austrian Alps. Luna Williamson came in third place overall, no stranger to being on podium. Strong performance from everyone involved!
We’d like to thank all the sponsors and supporters of the event for their help in putting on a great show: Snap, Scarpa, Beta, Tenaya, Evolv, Duchy Arms, Blocz holds, 360 holds, Delta, Rockcity, Squandra, Hard Bar & Ground massage. They all provided prizes or products that helped bring The Big Comp to life and make this event a reality.
Special thanks to DJ Lewis Prestt for putting on a smashing set for the climbers to crush to! Shout out to Emma Wood for designing our signature event bird for this year & VERY unique posters!
